‘On the fifth day, which was a Sunday, it rained very hard. I like it when it rains hard. It sounds like white noise everywhere, which is like silence but not empty’ - Christopher Boone
Why you should read this :
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a story that revolves around Christopher, an autistic boy who discovers his neighbour's dead dog one night. He is a genius in that he knows all of the prime numbers up to 7,057 and can solve logic puzzles quickly and efficiently; however, he can't stand the colors yellow or brown or the thought of different foods touching on his plate. The reader is led through Christopher's thoughts and feelings, confusion and determination as he sets about investigating the dogs death. Christophers personal experience's that are portrayed beautifully are inspiring and very moving as his persuit for the truth in turn leads to a wholly unexpected adventure.
From exploring reviews of this book online it has obviously caused a lot of controversy and I am unsure as to whether this is because of the naivity of the reader or just that because of the endearing nature of Christopher you can't help but love this book because you love the character and that disguises any other flaws. Ultimately it is a book you need to form your own opinion on and all I can say is that it is a must read!
Where you should read this :
It doesn't matter. Perhaps on a very long journey - so that then you don't have to put it down.
